NSCDC intercepts truck transporting vandalised street light poles in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted a truck laden with suspected vandalised street light poles en route to Kano.

FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, revealed this on Tuesday in Abuja, stating that the vehicle was halted by the corps’ Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) Crack Team.

However, the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene upon being flagged down, abandoning the vehicle and its contents.

“Their refusal to stop and provide necessary explanation raised further suspicion, prompting the impoundment and towing of the truck to the command headquarters,” Odumosu said.

He ordered the Intelligence and Investigations Department to take over the case and uncover the source and ownership of the vandalised items.

According to him, anyone found responsible will face legal prosecution.

Odumosu strongly condemned the continued sabotage of public infrastructure and warned those involved in vandalism of CNAI to desist or face the full force of the law.

He also issued a stern warning to operators of pantaker markets (scrap material traders) within the FCT to avoid dealing in stolen government property.

“Our surveillance covers every part of the FCT, including pantaker markets.

Any establishment found trading in vandalised public infrastructure risks being shut down,” he warned.

The Commandant urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity around critical infrastructure to the NSCDC via its emergency lines: 09166229882 or 08159066244.
