The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated an on-site probe into the crash-landing of a Diamond training aircraft belonging to the Aviation Training School.
The incident occurred on May 23, 2025, at 5:28 p.m. during a simulated instrument approach to Runway 05 at General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport in Ilorin.
NSIB Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., visited the scene on May 24 to oversee the preliminary investigation.
He confirmed that the aircraft’s data card has been successfully retrieved and is currently undergoing analysis at the NSIB’s transport safety laboratory in Abuja.

“Our investigators are actively working at the site.
“The damaged aircraft came to rest on the left side of the runway, and recovery operations are nearly concluded,” Badeh stated.
He added that a team of specialists remains on-site to complete essential measurements before returning to Abuja.
A preliminary report is expected within 30 days.
Captain Badeh Jr. emphasized the bureau’s commitment to transparency and aviation safety, saying, “Our responsibility is to find out what happened, how it happened, and most importantly, how to prevent it from happening again.”
The aircraft had two occupants on board at the time of the incident.
Both were promptly evacuated to a medical facility and are reported to be in stable condition.
“They are conscious, coherent, and receiving the necessary medical care.
“One of them has undergone an MRI scan,” Badeh confirmed.
