The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has officially commenced a nationwide Quality Assurance Monitoring and Evaluation exercise aimed at enhancing educational standards in senior secondary schools.
The initiative was launched at the Federal Government College in Malali, Kaduna State.
This programme, which aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, seeks to assess the performance of senior secondary schools across Nigeria, address educational challenges, and promote effective teaching and learning practices.
Speaking at the launch, NSSEC Executive Secretary, Dr. Iyela Ajayi, described the exercise as a significant step toward educational excellence.
“This initiative is not merely a bureaucratic exercise; it is a testament to our commitment to the future of our nation.

“The quality of education we provide today will determine the success of tomorrow,” he stated.
Dr. Ajayi emphasized that the evaluation process would identify strengths and weaknesses in schools, set performance benchmarks, and equip educators with tools to improve their teaching.
“Our goal is to ensure that every learner receives a quality education that prepares them for success in higher education and beyond,” he added.
He also highlighted the development of the National Minimum Standards for Senior Secondary Education, approved during the 68th National Council on Education meeting in October 2024.
These standards now serve as the baseline for all senior secondary schools in Nigeria.
Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Professor Muhammad Bello, expressed appreciation for the state’s selection as the launch site. Represented by Usman Zaria, Director of the State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, Bello acknowledged the programme’s potential to address critical gaps in the state’s education system.
He assured NSSEC of Kaduna’s full cooperation and stressed the need for strong collaboration between federal and state bodies to transform the education sector nationwide.
