Senator Ned Nwoko has dismissed the recent negative drug test result presented by his estranged wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, insisting that it only shows a brief period of abstinence and does not prove genuine recovery.

In a statement posted on his official X account and released by his communication team on Thursday, the lawmaker argued that true recovery and accountability cannot be measured by a single test or social media posts, but require ongoing professional support and effort.

Nwoko questioned the circumstances under which the recent test was conducted, contrasting it with earlier assessments carried out by two independent, reputable centres in Nigeria and South Africa.

He said those earlier evaluations, which reportedly indicated drug and alcohol use, were professionally compiled, formally documented and will be presented and defended in court, with the testing centres expected to testify.

“Presenting a later negative result as proof that no prior use occurred is misleading and disingenuous,” the senator’s statement said.

“At best, it reflects abstinence over a period of time. It does not invalidate earlier medical reports, nor does it negate what necessitated intervention in the first place.”

The response followed an emotional video Daniels shared on her social media earlier this week, in which she denied being a drug addict, said her recent comprehensive screening returned negative for illegal substances, and threatened legal action against those spreading the allegations.

While Daniels acknowledged past limited use of ecstasy (Molly), she maintained she had never abused harder drugs.

Nwoko dismissed any attempt to downplay the seriousness of the substance, stressing that renaming it does not change its inherent risks.

Nwoko also highlighted that a court previously granted him custody of their children and dismissed related human rights abuse claims.

The court order, he said, included a directive for Daniels to undergo supervised therapy, a process he claimed he encouraged privately before the matter became public.

According to the senator’s team, true sobriety and healing are not episodic and cannot be established by a single test taken “at a time of one’s choosing,” especially amid a highly publicised marital dispute that began in October 2025 with allegations of domestic violence and counterclaims of substance-related issues.
