An official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ogun State, Abass Olalekan, has been taken into police custody following the death of a female corps member, Victoria Ariyo.
Ariyo, who was serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, reportedly died on Tuesday after developing complications linked to a terminated pregnancy.
Olalekan, the NYSC Local Government Inspector (LGI) for Abeokuta South, is currently being held at the state police command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
Sources said the deceased was buried at Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape-Sagamu Road shortly after her death.
The incident comes weeks after another corps member, Adeleye Mary, who also served in Abeokuta South and was posted to Ogun State Television (OGTV), died under unclear circumstances. Both women were said to be close.
Insiders within the NYSC alleged that Olalekan had a sexual relationship with Ariyo prior to her death.
Confirming developments, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the case is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department, but declined to comment on the arrest.
