A final-year medical student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Adewole Emmanuel, has passed away after collapsing shortly before sitting for his last examination.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, was confirmed by the Ife University Medical Students Association via a statement issued on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
The student was said to have slumped unexpectedly and could not be revived, moments before the commencement of their final examination.
“During the process of waiting for the exam, he suddenly collapsed in the college and died,” a member of the association disclosed.

The association expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Emmanuel as a valued member of the medical community whose life was cut short at a critical stage of his academic journey.
“This incident is not only sad, but crucially painful as we lost a rising star and a loving member of the IFUMSA family,” it added.
IFUMSA also appealed to the public to avoid speculation surrounding the circumstances of Emmanuel’s death and urged respect for the privacy of his grieving family.
