Ogun airport begins operations with ValueJet commercial flights October 7

ValueJet has announced that flight operations will commence at the Gateway International Airport in the Iperu area of Ogun State on October 7, 2025.

The Accountable Manager/ Managing Director, valueJet, Capt. Omololu Majekodunmi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, September 26.

Majekodunmi said ValueJet will be operating two weekly flights to Abuja on Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 a.m. and from Abuja to the Gateway International Airport at 4:00 p.m.

He said tickets would be available online as of September 25 through travel agents and at the airport.

He stated that as part of its expansion programme, ValueJet will serve the growing demand in Ogun State and offer an alternative to Lagos and Ibadan for those within the Iperu catchment area.

He added that the Gateway airport’s strategic location is in Ilishan/Iperu, near the Sagamu Interchange and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Majekodunmi said: “This prime position offers easy access from key economic centres, functions as an alternative to Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed Airport, and places it adjacent to an agro-industrial processing zone and a free zone.

“Positioning it as a major hub for both cargo exports and regional trade.”

Majekodunmi expressed the airline’s excitement to operate at the Gateway airport as soon as it is commissioned for take-off of flight operations.

The airport was granted an Aerodrome Operational Permit by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) on August 15.

The approval allowed the airport to operate scheduled commercial flights.

The facilities at the airport show a 4-kilometre (4,000-metre) long and 60-metre-wide runway, which is one of the longest and widest in the West African sub-region.

This design allows the airport to accommodate wide-body and ultra-long-haul aircraft, including a Boeing 777, A350, and other aircraft.
