Ogun Arewa community backs Yayi for gov

The Arewa Community in Ogun State has endorsed the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, pledging to mobilise support for him across the state’s 20 local government areas ahead of the 2027 election.

The endorsement was announced during a consultative meeting held at the senator’s constituency office in Ilaro on Tuesday, where leaders of the community expressed their commitment to embark on a door-to-door campaign to rally support for the All Progressives Congress chieftain.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Director-General of the Southwest Arewa Community, Alhaji Shehu Usman, described Adeola as a detribalised Nigerian and a progressive leader committed to the welfare of the people.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant on Inter-Ethnic Affairs and Coordinator of Arewa Door-to-Door for Senator Adeola, Prince Hadi Sani, said the Hausa community viewed the senator as the right candidate to sustain the achievements of the Dapo Abiodun administration, particularly in promoting peaceful coexistence and inter-ethnic harmony.

He disclosed that the community had concluded plans to brand 10 campaign buses for Adeola and would begin a statewide grassroots mobilisation campaign in support of his governorship ambition.

Several traditional and community leaders attended the meeting, including the Sarkin Hausawa of Egbaland, Alhaji Ibrahim Hassan Hassan; the Sarkin Hausawa of Aworiland, Alhaji Muhammadu Badamasi; the Sarkin Hausawa of Owode Yewa, Alhaji Umar Muhammed Nalado; the Sarkin Hausawa of Sagamu, Alhaji Inuwa Garba; the Sarkin Hausawa of Ilaro, Alhaji Lawan Musa; Chairman of Ogere Market, Alhaji Bura Muhammed; Ogun State Arewa Women Leader, Hajiya Sadiya Garzali; and the community’s Youth Leader, Alhaji Yusuf Adam.

Senator Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District, has intensified consultations with political stakeholders, traditional rulers and interest groups across Ogun State as part of efforts to build support ahead of the 2027 governorship election. According to the statement, he has also emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the APC following endorsements by party stakeholders across the state’s three senatorial districts.
