Ogun: Man kills wife, dies in crash while fleeing

A man identified as Odukoya Bidemi allegedly killed his wife during a domestic dispute in Ogun State before dying in a road accident while attempting to flee the scene.

The incident occurred around 2am on August 31, 2026, at Ibogun Akinode community in the state.

Bidemi was alleged to have engaged his wife, Odukoya Adenike, in an argument which later degenerated into a physical confrontation.

According to police sources, Bidemi allegedly hit Adenike against a wall during the altercation, leaving her with injuries that subsequently proved fatal.

Following a report of the incident, detectives from the Ibogun Police Division visited the scene, while the woman’s remains were evacuated and deposited at the Ifo General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

The suspect reportedly fled after realising the gravity of what had happened.

However, police said information later reached investigators that Bidemi had been involved in a fatal road accident while fleeing.

“Later, information gathered revealed that while the suspect was fleeing, he was involved in a fatal motor vehicle-versus-pedestrian accident at Iyana Coker Bus Stop, via Ifo, and died on the spot,” a police source said.

Detectives subsequently visited the morgue where the unidentified body from the accident had been deposited.

Photographs were taken and used for identification, after which investigators confirmed that the deceased was the man suspected of killing Adenike.

The development came barely a day before another domestic tragedy was reported in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state.

At Ogungbade village, near Ayerose village, a man identified as Tajudeen Yekini allegedly killed his wife, Tioyin Edunjobi, at their residence around 10:30pm on Tuesday, September 1.

The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of the couple’s son, who raised the alarm and attracted neighbours to the house.

The cause of the disagreement between the couple had yet to be established.

Following the alarm, residents alerted policemen from the Kemta Police Station, who arrived at the scene.

A police source said detectives evacuated Edunjobi’s remains and deposited them at a mortuary, while Yekini was arrested and taken into custody.

“Detectives from the station visited the scene, evacuated the body and deposited it at the mortuary. The suspect is currently in police custody. Investigation is ongoing,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the family of Adenike has reportedly approached the police to request the release of her remains for burial.

The two incidents have prompted ongoing police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
