Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced a new partnership with Chinese investors to strengthen the state’s energy infrastructure and drive industrial development.
In a statement shared on X on Saturday, Abiodun said discussions with Jiangsu-based energy firm Cteec focused on financing options, technical capacity, and the company’s readiness to execute key energy projects across the state.
“Our conversations centred on three key areas of collaboration — enhancing power transmission and distribution, establishing an Industrial Park to attract Chinese manufacturers with integrated power projects, and installing a free 3MW power plant at the Gateway International Cargo Airport to jumpstart operations there,” the governor stated.
He added that the visiting delegation would also tour ongoing power and distribution projects executed by Sahara and Powergen as part of efforts to secure stable electricity across the state.
Abiodun noted that Cteec, which already has a 100MW investment footprint in Nigeria, plans to expand its operations in Ogun with new investments in power generation, distribution, and a dedicated state transmission network.
“This engagement reaffirms our commitment to building the energy backbone that will sustain Ogun State’s industrial growth and economic development,” the governor said.
In a related development, Abiodun revealed that maiden commercial flights from the Gateway International Airport, Iperu-Ilishan, to Abuja have sold out, with subsequent flights also fully booked — a sign, he said, of the airport’s readiness to serve as a major aviation hub.
“From roads that connect our communities to affordable housing for our citizens, we remain committed to building structures that improve the quality of life of our people.
“Every stride in infrastructure lays the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous Ogun State,” he added.
The Gateway International Airport received its Aerodrome Operational Permit from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in August 2025, with Value Jet Airline scheduled to begin twice-weekly passenger flights to Abuja starting October 7, 2025.
