Oluremi Tinubu harvests vegetables from Villa, calls for home gardening

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has again promoted household farming after harvesting fresh vegetables from her garden at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to a post shared by Nigerian Television Authority on X on Tuesday, the First Lady visited the vegetable garden on Monday to harvest crops cultivated under her Every Home A Garden initiative.

The garden, established about two years ago, continues to produce vegetables including spinach, waterleaf and fluted pumpkin.

After the harvest, Oluremi Tinubu distributed part of the produce to members of her staff, encouraging Nigerians to embrace the culture of sharing while promoting home-grown food.

The First Lady launched the Villa vegetable garden in July 2024 under her Renewed Hope Initiative to demonstrate the benefits of household farming as a practical response to rising food costs and food security concerns.

The project was introduced alongside the Every Home A Garden campaign, which encourages families, particularly women, to cultivate vegetables within available spaces in their homes.

The initiative also showcases how small-scale gardening can improve access to nutritious food, reduce household food expenses and support healthier living.
