Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the recruitment and training of 500 officers for the State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun.
Aiyedatiwa announced this in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, on Friday, November 28, 2025, during the inauguration of 130 newly appointed Justices of the Peace (JPs), the first set to be appointed in the state since 2008.
The governor said the recruitment was part of efforts to strengthen the state’s security architecture and support ongoing reforms in the justice sector.
He added that the revival of the JP office was in line with the ‘Order, Security and Rule of Law’ pillar of his administration’s agenda.

Aiyedatiwa urged the new appointees to promote peace, fairness, and justice in their communities, noting that the office required integrity and discipline.
Aiyedatiwa disclosed that the Ogun State Government had also recruited more state counsel and was expanding existing judicial facilities, adding that a new judiciary complex was nearing completion.
In his remarks, the Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Kayode Ajulo, said the JP system, introduced during the colonial era, remained an important link between government and local communities.
Ajulo said appointees were selected based on merit, integrity and moral standing, adding that the office carried statutory powers under Section 12 of the Magistrates’ Court Law to preserve peace and address minor disputes.
