Super Eagles

The Super Eagles of Nigeria produced a commanding performance to defeat Gabon 4–1 in extra time on Thursday, booking their place in the final round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs.

The match, played at Stade Mohammed V in Rabat, Morocco, saw Victor Osimhen lead the charge with a sensational brace that sealed the emphatic win for Nigeria.

After a goalless first half, Akor Adams opened the scoring early in the second half, pouncing on a defensive blunder to give Nigeria the lead.

The Super Eagles responded in style, with Chidera Ejuke calmly restoring the advantage before Osimhen struck twice in quick succession to put the contest beyond reach.

Nigeria’s defence, marshalled by Benjamin Frederick and Calvin Bassey, held firm against Gabon’s late push, ensuring there was no comeback.

With the victory, the Super Eagles take a huge step toward qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, with the final playoff round now standing between them and a ticket to North America.
