The Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Isaac Omoyele, narrowly escaped death after being attacked by unidentified gunmen late on Monday night.
The incident occurred around 10:05 p.m. along Ikirun Road in Osogbo, shortly after Omoyele left the Amotekun Corps Headquarters for his residence.
According to reports, the commander’s private vehicle was ambushed and riddled with bullets by heavily armed assailants.
A statement issued by the Corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, confirmed that the attack had been reported to the Nigerian Police, Ota-Efun Division, in Osogbo.
Omoyele reportedly sustained gunshot injuries and has been admitted to an undisclosed hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment under protective watch. His condition is said to be stable.
“The case has been officially reported to the Ota-Efun Police Division, and investigations are ongoing,” the statement read.
“No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the motive remains unknown.”
Security sources said the Amotekun leadership has vowed to cooperate with police investigators to ensure those behind the attack are brought to justice.
