‘Osun no be Edo’ — Davido mocks APC as Adeleke leads

Afrobeats singer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that his uncle and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, was leading in Saturday’s governorship election as votes were being counted across the state.

Davido, who has actively campaigned for the governor, made the claims in a series of posts on social media during the sorting and counting of ballots.

Reacting to results emerging from polling units, the singer claimed that the All Progressives Congress lost the ward of former Osun State Governor, Bisi Akande.

“Their group chat don scatter! Baba Akande lost his ward. Gov Adeleke is cruising to victory. Shame APC. Osun no be Edo!” Davido wrote.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant through the night, alleging that there could be attempts to manipulate the outcome of the election.

“I implore Osun people to stay vigilant all night and resist plans of Oyetola. Na we get Osogbo! Imole ti woleeeee,” he added.

In another post, Davido expressed confidence that Adeleke would emerge victorious and called on security agencies to maintain their presence at polling locations.

“We are winning, guys! Security agencies shouldn’t be withdrawn from electoral units,” he said.

Meanwhile, voting had ended across the state, with electoral officials proceeding with sorting and counting at polling units before the collation of results.

As of 5:51pm on Saturday, results from 1,695 of the 3,763 polling units had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing Portal, according to a check by our correspondent.

Adeleke had earlier expressed confidence in victory after casting his vote at Sagba Abogunde Ward 2, Unit 9, in Ede North Local Government Area.

The APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, also expressed optimism about his chances after voting at Ward 09, Unit 011, Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area.

Similarly, African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, raised concerns over the alleged exclusion of some of his party agents from polling units across the state.

INEC had yet to officially declare a winner as of the time of filing this report.
