Pastor Adeboye: Why I no longer employ female secretaries

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed why he no longer employs female secretaries.

Adeboye, 83, said the decision is rooted in his commitment to maintaining spiritual discipline and avoiding compromising situations.

The octogenarian disclosed this during his sermon titled ‘Jonah Must Go’ on day two of the RCCG Holy Ghost Congress 2025, held at the Redemption Camp along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

Speaking during the sermon shared on the church’s YouTube channel on Tuesday, Adeboye recounted that he once worked with a female secretary while serving at the RCCG headquarters in the Ebute Metta area of Lagos State.

Pastor Adeboye said he however decided to discontinue having female secretaries when he moved to the Redemption Camp, noting that late-night duties made it necessary to avoid scenarios that could trigger temptation.

The revered cleric said: “From the moment I got to this campground and realised I would often work late into the night, I stopped having female secretaries.

Adeboye to Tinubu: Beg Trump, no country’ll help Nigeria

“Some may think it is gender discrimination, but I know myself and my past before Christ saved me. I saw the possibility of being alone at night with the opposite sex.”

He described his former secretary as “a wonderful child of God” but insisted that the change was needed to preserve his spiritual focus.

“After a long day, with the last visitor gone at 2 a.m., and your secretary coming in to ask if you need tea to relax — Jonah must go,” Adeboye added.

Adeboye, therefore, enjoined Christians to cut off relationships or associations that could hinder their spiritual growth.

He told the congregation: “When you look at the parable of Jonah, you may ask, ‘What happens if I cut off this relationship?’ Leave the rest to God.

“Jonah could not reach where God wanted him to be until he was thrown overboard.
