Patience Ozokwor denies land-grabbing allegations, vows legal action

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor has strongly denied allegations made by a widow and her daughter, who accused her of illegally seizing a parcel of land belonging to their late husband and father.

The claims surfaced in a viral video shared on social media, sparking controversy and public debate.

In a statement posted on her official Instagram account, Ozokwor clarified that she legally acquired the property in question in 2010.

She stated that the widow was fully involved in the sale at the time and had even initiated contact with her agent to find a buyer for the land.

According to Ozokwor, trouble began in 2023—13 years after the original transaction—when the widow allegedly attempted to resell a portion of the land without her knowledge.

Upon discovering this, Ozokwor said she fenced the land to protect her ownership, which she believes led to the backlash online.

The widow and her daughter then accused the actress of encroaching on their inheritance, claiming the land was the only property left by the deceased.

Ozokwor has rejected these accusations, calling them acts of “blackmail, fraud, and malicious intent.”

“I am shocked that they could go online and make such false claims to manipulate public sympathy and solicit donations,” the actress wrote.

“They are using my name and public image to gain pity and trend online.”

Ozokwor also condemned bloggers who shared the story without verifying its authenticity.

She emphasized that social media is not a legal platform and announced her intention to pursue the matter through the courts.

“In 2010, I bought the land legally. Now, 14 years later, the seller is trying to resell a portion of it.

“I fenced it to protect my property. Next thing I see is them accusing me online,” she wrote. “This is why I say—meet me in court.”

The actress, known for her decades-long career in Nollywood, stressed the importance of protecting her reputation, which she described as the foundation of her livelihood.

She concluded by thanking her fans and supporters for their encouragement and reiterated her commitment to resolving the dispute through legal means.

“This matter will be settled in court, not on social media,” she said, signing off with her signature hashtag, #MamaGLovers.
