The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a scathing assessment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing it as “exploitative, insensitive, and anti-people,” following its 99th meeting held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
In a communique released at the end of the meeting, the PDP NEC expressed grave concern over what it called the “melancholic state of the nation,” highlighting the worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and corruption allegedly festering under the current All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
“The wanton killings, kidnappings, and terror attacks are emboldened by President Tinubu’s apparent negligence and abdication of his constitutional duty to protect Nigerians,” the communique stated.
It also decried rising fuel prices, electricity tariff hikes, and heavy taxation, which it said have crippled businesses and deepened poverty nationwide.
The NEC accused the Tinubu administration of “policy inconsistency, massive treasury looting, and diversion of public funds,” leading to infrastructural decay and loss of investor confidence.
Warning against what it termed a “sinister plot” by the APC to impose a one-party state through intimidation of opposition figures and institutions, the PDP said it remains committed to democratic principles and multiparty governance.
Despite the challenges, the NEC emphasized that the PDP remains “strong, resilient, and united,” and reaffirmed its readiness to lead efforts to rescue Nigeria from what it described as the APC’s “vicious grip.”
The NEC also ratified the composition of the committees for its upcoming National Convention scheduled for August 28 to 30, 2025. Governor Ahmadu Fintiri will chair the Convention Committee, with Governors Ademola Adeleke and Peter Mbah serving as vice chairman and secretary, respectively.
Additionally, the zoning committee for national offices will be led by Governor Douye Diri as chairman, with Governors Dauda Lawal and Caleb Mutfwang as vice chairman and secretary.
The NEC further acknowledged a resolution from the South East Zonal Executive concerning the National Secretary position, noting that the matter will be considered at its next meeting on June 30, 2025.
