Demola Olarewaju, Senior Political Assistant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is no longer a dominant force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Speaking on the Mic On podcast on Saturday, Olarewaju said the PDP has lost its national appeal and is now driven largely by ethnic interests rather than a unifying national agenda.
“The PDP is no longer the force it once was.
“It has lost the drive and has become a vehicle for ethnic ambitions.
“While it may still hold influence in some states, at the national level, the party is no longer fit for purpose,” he said.
Olarewaju further predicted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) could lose the 2027 presidential election if Atiku Abubakar and former President Goodluck Jonathan contest on separate party platforms.
“If Jonathan runs under the PDP and Atiku or another candidate runs under the ADC, APC loses.
“The ruling party will have no base in that election,” he asserted.
He added that if Jonathan decides to join the PDP presidential primaries and emerges victorious, Atiku’s camp would fully support his candidacy.
