PDP secretariat still sealed despite reopening claims

The national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wadata Plaza in Abuja, remained shut on Monday, despite earlier assurances from the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee that the facility would reopen.

The committee had indicated that the office would resume operations after consultations with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and internal party stakeholders.

A PDP faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had also announced plans to reopen the secretariat following INEC’s quarterly meeting with political party leaders, expressing confidence that normal administrative and political activities would recommence.

However, a visit to the premises by a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent showed that the complex remained inaccessible.

The headquarters, located in Wuse Zone 5, was firmly locked, with no sign of staff or party officials on site. Razor wire barricades were still placed along the access road and around the perimeter fence, blocking entry through the main gates.

Heavy security remained in place, with police patrol vehicles and armed personnel stationed around the building.

A security officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said there had been no directive to withdraw or ease security measures.

The Nigeria Police Force sealed the secretariat on November 19, 2025, following violent clashes between rival PDP factions.

The conflict involved the Taminu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) and the faction headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

Although Senator Samuel Anyanwu hinted at a possible reopening, the Turaki-led NWC cautioned against granting access to the facility, citing ongoing court cases and warning that reopening could amount to contempt of court.
