PDP slams EFCC over Tambuwal arrest, alleges political witch-hunt

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has condemned the arrest of former governor and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging it is part of a wider plot by the APC-led Federal Government to weaken the opposition.

In a statement on Tuesday, PDP Publicity Secretary Hassan Sanyinnawal claimed the arrest was politically motivated and tied to an old case that had previously failed to yield evidence.

He accused political actors in Sokoto and Abuja of attempting to tarnish Tambuwal’s image and silence his criticism of what the party described as bad governance.

The PDP defended Tambuwal’s eight-year tenure as governor, describing it as one marked by fiscal discipline and transparency.

It accused the EFCC of selective prosecution, alleging that corruption cases involving members of the ruling party are ignored.

The party urged anti-graft agencies to act without political interference and called on its supporters to remain calm but steadfast in defending democracy and good governance.

“Our trust in Tambuwal’s integrity cannot be shaken by politically motivated probes,” the statement read.

Tambuwal, who also served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, was taken into EFCC custody on Monday over alleged financial misconduct during his time as governor.
