PDP South West disowns ‘Ibadan briefing’, labels organisers impostors

The South West Zonal chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has distanced itself from a purported press conference held in Ibadan on Monday, describing the event as the handiwork of “criminal impostors” with no ties to the party.

In a statement issued by the Zonal Publicity Secretary, Akinloye Oyeniyi, the party dismissed claims that it had criticised former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, endorsed Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, or pledged allegiance to a Turaki-led National Working Committee.

Oyeniyi clarified that no such briefing took place under the authority of the party, noting that the Zonal Chairman, Deji Doherty, was in Abuja attending the party’s 108th National Executive Committee meeting at the time.

“The claim of an Ibadan press conference is a blatant falsehood. No zonal official convened or addressed any such gathering,” he said.

The PDP further stressed that those behind the alleged event are not recognised members of the party at any level, from ward to national structure, and lack any legitimate mandate to speak on its behalf.

Oyeniyi also questioned the credibility of the group, pointing out the absence of a Zonal Vice Chairman within their ranks—an essential component of any legitimate party structure in the region.

He accused the individuals of attempting to destabilise the party, describing their efforts as failed and dismissing their actions as theatrics aimed at gaining attention without legitimacy.

Reaffirming its position, the PDP South West declared unwavering loyalty to the Abdulrahman-led National Working Committee and the party’s national leadership, including Nyesom Wike.

The party advised those involved in the disputed gathering to return through proper channels if they wish to be part of the PDP, warning that media stunts and propaganda would not confer legitimacy.

It also urged party members, the public, and the media to disregard the claims from the Ibadan event, emphasizing that all official communications from the PDP South West would come through recognised leadership under Doherty.
