The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set to sanction some of its top members, including Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, for endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 polls.
Party sources told Weekend Trust that the move is part of a broader strategy to reposition the PDP and woo key opposition figures, including Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, into its fold.
Wike, a prominent PDP member serving in President Tinubu’s APC-led government, has repeatedly backed Tinubu’s second-term ambition, despite the president not yet declaring his intent to run. Similarly, former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose recently joined APC members in endorsing Tinubu while still openly displaying PDP affiliation.
In Osun State, Governor Adeleke and state PDP members also declared support for Tinubu about two weeks ago.
PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, in a statement on Friday, described the situation as a serious concern. South-South PDP Zonal Caretaker Committee Chairman Emmanuel Ogidi confirmed that the National Working Committee will deliberate on the matter next week.
