Peter Obi rallies support for 2027, warns against election rigging

Former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to set aside their differences and unite ahead of the 2027 general election to “rescue” the country from what he described as years of poor governance.

Speaking in Uyo at the OBIDIENT Conference and official declaration for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Obi said the proposed “Operation Rescue Nigeria” was not about personal ambition but about securing a better future for coming generations.

He expressed concern over Nigeria’s rising debt profile, alleging that the current administration had borrowed heavily, with repayment obligations stretching into the coming decades.

According to him, the 2027 election presents an opportunity to correct the nation’s trajectory and strengthen democratic processes. He stressed that election results must be transmitted electronically in real time, warning that any attempt to manipulate the process would have consequences.

Obi said he remained determined to contest the next presidential election, adding that democracy must be allowed to function freely without political interference.

He also outlined his policy priorities, promising significant investment in education and healthcare if elected. He argued that sustainable development and poverty reduction depend largely on deliberate spending in critical social sectors.

The former governor pledged to tackle corruption and promote transparent leadership, citing his record in Anambra State where he said he avoided personal enrichment while in office.

Meanwhile, OBIDIENT Movement’s global coordinator, Tanko Yunusa, urged supporters to mobilise nationwide and adopt the ADC as a platform for political change in 2027.

The Akwa Ibom State coordinator of the movement, Ben Smith, also called for unity among members, saying internal divisions could undermine their goals.

Both leaders maintained that the 2027 elections should focus on jobs, security, and improved living conditions for Nigerians.
