Fubara

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and the suspended governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, have again appeared in public together.

Wike, Fubara, and the suspended Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, were seen at the burial of the minister’s uncle in Rumuepirikom, Rivers State, on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Rumuepirikom is Wike’s hometown in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The three politicians have been locked in a political crisis for nearly two years.

Their appearance follows Thursday’s peace meeting brokered by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, which sought to end the lingering political crisis in the South-South state.

Although no political statements were made at the event, the presence of the three political leaders in one place has reignited hope that the crisis, which led to the declaration of a state of emergency three months ago, may be nearing an end.

Wike’s spokesman, Lere Olayinka, also shared a video showing Fubara at the minister’s residence in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

“Governor Sim Fubara at the residence of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt today,” Olayinka wrote on X.
