Plateau attack: Army chief moves tactical HQ to Mangu

The General Officer Commanding, 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace, Major General Maxwell Dangana, has relocated the formation’s tactical headquarters from Jos to Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State following a deadly attack on Bin-Per community.

The move comes after an early morning attack on Tuesday, August 18, in which at least 23 people, including women and children, were reportedly killed.

Dangana arrived in Mangu on Wednesday with additional troops, military equipment and other operational resources to coordinate the response and assess the security situation in the affected communities.

The Army said the relocation was aimed at strengthening its presence in vulnerable areas, improving response time and enhancing coordination among security personnel operating in the locality.

The military has also launched Operation Hard Knot, a special operation designed to prevent further attacks, protect vulnerable communities and track down those responsible for the violence.

Dangana is expected to personally supervise troop deployments and other operational activities while engaging community leaders and other stakeholders to restore security and confidence among residents.

The development follows renewed security concerns across parts of Plateau State, where recurring attacks and reprisal violence have continued to threaten lives, livelihoods and peaceful relations between communities.

Security forces are expected to intensify patrols, intelligence gathering and offensive operations across identified flashpoints to prevent further escalation.

Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with timely information that could assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attacks.
