The Kano State Police Command says its operatives have apprehended 198 suspects for various criminal activities in the state.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Dikko, disclosed this during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Kano on Thursday.
Dikko said the suspects were arrested between June 27 and July 21, 2022, in different areas of Kano State.
He said: “From our last Press Release of 27th June, 2022 to date, i.e. for 24 days, the command arrested 198 suspects for major offences which include armed robbery, kidnapping, car theft, fraud, thuggery, drug abuse, etc, most of which were charged to court for prosecution.”
According to Dikko, the suspects arrested were “42 armed robbery suspects, 9 kidnapping suspects, 16 suspected fraudsters, 2 human trafficking suspects, 27 motor vehicles and tricycles thieves, 12 suspected drug dealers, and 92 suspected thugs.”

The police commissioner stated that five trafficked victims were rescued, adding that items recovered from the suspects were 25 rifles, including three AK-47s, one pistol, one pump action, 10 locally made pistols, and 122 knives.
He said the police operatives also recovered 12 stolen vehicles, seven tricycles, and three motorcycles.
Dikko further revealed that some illicit drugs were found in possession of the suspects.
“Other recoveries include four laptop Computer, 134 mobile phones, and 16 Plasma TV,” he added.
He stated that the police was committed to community-based and citizen-led policing in Kano State just as he applauded other security agencies, residents and civil society organisations for their support and cooperation toward ensuring crime-free Kano State.
