Police arrest Chinese national over Ikeja CCTV shop explosion

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a Chinese national in connection with the recent explosion caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) inside a CCTV equipment shop on Kodesho Street, Ikeja.

Reliable sources told Zagazola Makama that detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, apprehended the suspect, identified as Joe Gu, at about 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 25, at his residence in Bila Vista Estate, Banana Island, Ikoyi.

According to the sources, the arrest followed discreet investigations into the explosion, after the complainant pointed to the Chinese businessman as a possible mastermind.

Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect and the complainant had a long-standing business relationship that went sour in 2013 after a dispute.

“It was further discovered that during the fallout, the suspect allegedly issued threats to disrupt the complainant’s business operations,” one of the sources disclosed.

The suspect is currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine his level of involvement and motive behind the alleged act.

Police authorities, according to the sources, assured the public that updates on the case would be released in due course, reaffirming the command’s commitment to uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
