Police arrest landlady for poisoning tenant’s three-year-old son in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, for allegedly poisoning the three-year-old son of her tenant in the Omifon community, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The arrest was confirmed on Friday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who said the incident followed a disagreement between the suspect and the child’s mother, identified as Rofiat.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly gave the child, Abdulrasheed, a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2026.

Shortly after ingesting the substance, the child reportedly began vomiting and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received prompt medical treatment.

Jimoh said detectives launched a swift, intelligence-led operation that led to the suspect’s arrest. The substance believed to be poison was also recovered during the investigation.

“The suspect is currently in custody and has made useful statements,” the police spokesperson said, adding that a full investigation is ongoing and the case will be charged to court once inquiries are concluded.
