Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a man, Gafaru Rasaki, for allegedly exhuming bodies from a cemetery in Sagamu and being found in possession of four human remains.
The command’s spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday, saying the suspect was apprehended by officers of the Shagamu Police Division on January 21, 2026, following credible intelligence.
According to him, investigations revealed that Rasaki allegedly dug up the remains from a cemetery, an act the police described as a serious violation of the law and a desecration of burial sites.
“The suspect was found in possession of four human remains. Preliminary findings indicate they were unlawfully exhumed from a cemetery,” Oluseyi said.
He added that the recovered exhibits had been secured and that the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and warned that anyone involved in tampering with graves or human remains would face prosecution.
Oluseyi also noted that the incident is not isolated, recalling that three other suspects were arrested in the Mowe area last month over alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of a human skull.
