The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing a six-year-old girl.

The suspect, identified as Bilal Ya’u, was apprehended following a formal report made by the victim’s father.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Nafiu Habib, the father reported the incident to the Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters on January 6, 2026.

The report stated that on January 5, Ya’u lured the young child into an uncompleted building where he forcefully assaulted her.

During police interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.

Investigations further revealed that this was not the first time Ya’u had targeted the child.

He admitted to previously abusing the minor during the 2024 rainy season.

At that time, the girl’s mother had discovered the abuse but only warned the suspect to stay away from her daughter.

The police have confirmed that investigations are still ongoing and the suspect will be charged in court once the process is complete.

In a separate incident, the Ondo State Police Command arrested 55-year-old Ademola Joshua for alleged incest and sexual abuse.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, stated that Joshua is accused of impregnating a 15-year-old relative.

The case was brought to light on January 4 when a relative noticed the victim’s pregnancy and launched an inquiry into the cause.
