The Kwara State Police Command says three people have been arrested over a suspected arson attack on a house in Ilorin, reportedly linked to religious disagreements.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said officers have launched a full investigation into the incident, which occurred in the Isale Koko area of the state capital.
According to the police, the case was reported on January 2, 2026, by the homeowner, Mrs. T. A. Olorisha, who claimed that unknown persons set her house on fire at about 7pm on January 1 while she was not at home.
Ejire-Adeyemi explained that the command had seen a viral video of an elderly woman lamenting the destruction of her house and assured that detectives are already working to uncover what happened.
Mrs. Olorisha also told police she had earlier received threats in November 2025 from individuals who allegedly opposed her because she practices traditional religion. The suspects — identified as Alhaji Salihu Saka, 63; Alhaji Abubakar Salihu, 58; and Alhaji Yekini Olohuntele, 67 — are now in custody and assisting with investigations.
No casualties were recorded, as no one was inside the building during the fire, and the cost of the damaged property has not yet been determined.
The command urged residents to remain calm and share useful information, while promising a thorough investigation and restating its commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and the rights of all citizens, regardless of their beliefs.
