Police arrest three robbers, recover pistol in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers in Ibadan and recovered a locally made pistol, a live cartridge and a motorcycle following a robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout.

The suspects, identified as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23, were arrested on Thursday, October 8, after police operatives responded to a distress call reporting an armed robbery in the area.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the Divisional Police Officer of Oluyole Division deployed a patrol team to the scene immediately after receiving the report.

The team reportedly confronted the suspects and arrested them, recovering a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, a cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects allegedly robbed a tricycle driver and two passengers and injured other people during their operations.

The recovered items have been secured as exhibits, while the suspects remain in custody.

The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime through prompt responses to distress calls, intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal elements.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements and criminal activities, stressing that timely and credible information from the public remains vital to maintaining security across the state.
