The Rivers State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the murder of a woman, Special Bensington, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, made this known on Friday, disclosing that the woman was killed by gunmen on March 21, 2026.
Iringe-Koko stated that the incident occurred at the Total Gospel area, Off Odili Road, and was reported at the Abuloma Police Division by a resident, Divine Anyanwu.

She said Basington boarded a ride-hailing vehicle from an unnamed hotel in Port Harcourt, adding that the victim was attacked by gunmen suspected to have trailed her from the hotel.
Iringe-Koko stated that the assailants, who were in a tricycle, opened fire on the victim.
“During the attack, the victim sustained gunshot injuries and was subsequently rushed to the hospital where she died while receiving treatment,” the police spokesperson said.

Iringe-Koko said the victim’s remains had been deposited at the mortuary for an autopsy, adding that the police command has launched an investigation into the killing.
Iringe-Koko further stated that the case had been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation.
“Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. I assure members of the public that those responsible for this act will be brought to justice,” she said.
The police spokesperson urged residents to provide information to support the investigation, and assured that timely updates would be provided as the investigation progressed.
