A white 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus belonging to the police unit of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been reportedly stolen by suspected car thieves in Abuja.
According to security sources, the vehicle, with registration number FG283 U10, was stolen on Monday at the Corner Shop area of Gwarimpa.
The source told reporters that the bus was driven by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) attached to the INEC police unit, who had parked it while visiting a friend on 3rd Avenue, Gwarimpa.
“During the visit, it started raining heavily. When the officer later came out after the rain stopped, the bus was no longer where he parked it,” the source said.
The incident has been reported to the Gwarimpa Police Division, and the FCT Police Control Room has also been notified.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, said she had not yet received details of the incident but would confirm with the Gwarimpa Division and provide updates.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the FCT Police Command regarding the theft.
