Police declare Lagos land-grabber wanted over killing of three

The Lagos State Police Command has declared a suspected land-grabber wanted over his alleged role in the killing of three persons during a clash in the Owode Onirin area of the state.

Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement on Wednesday that preliminary investigations linked the suspect, identified as the Chief Executive Officer of Prosperous Ariori Golden Venture Limited, to the violence which also left a police inspector critically injured.

“Three persons sustained fatal injuries and were confirmed dead at the hospital.

“The police officer is in a critical, life-threatening condition and receiving treatment,” Hundeyin said.

According to him, efforts to arrest the suspect have so far failed as he has gone into hiding.

The public was urged to provide information on his whereabouts or hand him over to the nearest police station. His last known address was in Egbeda, Lagos.

The spokesperson added that the clash had led to blocked roads and a breakdown of order around the market before police officers, led by Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh, moved in to restore peace and reopen traffic routes.

Hundeyin further disclosed that four policemen allegedly brought in from outside Lagos by the suspect were arrested and tried for going on illegal duty.

Their trial outcome, he said, would be made public.

The command assured residents that adequate personnel remain deployed in the area to prevent a resurgence of violence.
