Niger State police have deployed bomb disposal experts to safely evacuate an explosive device discovered by the roadside in the state.
State Commissioner of Police Adamu Elleman confirmed on Tuesday that officers were alerted after farmers in Ganaru community, Mashegu Local Government Area, raised the alarm about suspected explosive devices.
While villagers initially reported seeing three devices, Elleman clarified that only one explosive device was found.
The police have cordoned off the area and brought in specialist units to assess and professionally remove or detonate the device.
Elleman urged residents to continue their normal activities without fear, assuring that the situation was under control.
Local authorities, including the Mashegu local government chairman, Jibrin Egade, expressed shock at the find, noting that the community had not experienced serious security issues before and that security agencies responded promptly to the report.
The discovery comes amid ongoing security concerns in parts of Niger State, where recent attacks have claimed lives and heightened alertness among residents.
