The Kano State Police Command has announced a total restriction of movement in four local government areas ahead of Saturday’s re-run and bye-elections.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the measures, taken in collaboration with other security agencies, are aimed at ensuring a peaceful, free, and transparent process in the Ghari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono State Constituencies on August 15, 2025.
According to the directive, the movement of motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles within Ghari, Tsanyawa, Bagwai, and Shanono LGAs will be prohibited from midnight on Friday until 6:00 p.m. on Election Day. Only vehicles on essential duties, such as ambulances, fire service trucks, those conveying electoral officials, and accredited observers, will be exempted.
The Command also warned that only eligible voters and INEC-accredited agents will be allowed at polling units, while the possession of weapons, wearing or displaying political party logos at polling stations, and loitering around voting areas are strictly prohibited. It added that state security outfits, vigilante groups, and KAROTA personnel will not be permitted near polling stations during the election.
Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori assured residents of the police’s neutrality and professionalism throughout the exercise, urging them to fully comply with the directives to ensure a smooth electoral process.
