Police inspector killed at checkpoint in Taraba

The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a police inspector by armed assailants at a checkpoint in Tella, Gassol Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Sunday at about 9:30 p.m., when the victim, identified as Inspector Suleiman Dala of the 40 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Jalingo, was attacked while on duty.

His service rifle was reportedly taken away by the attackers.

Police operatives later arrived at the scene, documented evidence, and evacuated the body to the General Hospital, Tella, where it was deposited in the morgue.

Security sources said the command has launched a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen weapon.

The command also extended condolences to the late officer’s family, pledging that those responsible would be brought to justice.
