A police inspector has been tragically killed by a stray bullet during a routine patrol in Adamawa State.
The incident occurred at 11:00 a.m. on May 25 along the Song–Gombi Road in Song Local Government Area.
Adamawa State Police Command, noted that the late officer, Inspector Musa Kampani, was part of the Safer Highway Patrol team conducting a stop-and-search operation when the incident took place.
During the operation, officers intercepted a tricycle passenger dressed in plain clothes and found in possession of a Dane gun.
The individual failed to provide any credible identification or justification for carrying the weapon, raising suspicions.
As the officers questioned the suspect, members of the local Hunters and Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) reportedly arrived at the scene and began firing shots into the air.
In the ensuing confusion, Inspector Kampani was hit by a stray pellet.

The Divisional Police Officer in Song immediately led a response team to the scene.
The injured officer was rushed to the Cottage Hospital in Song, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for an autopsy.
Following the incident, Adamu Zubairu, Commander of the Hunters/Civilian JTF, was arrested, and efforts are underway to track down other individuals involved.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has launched a full investigation into the matter.
