A police Inspector, Maxwell Zabu, has shot himself dead in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.
It was gathered that Inspector Zabu, formerly a security detail to the former Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Victor Ihunwo, shot himself at Ihunwo’s residence in Eagle Island, Port Harcourt.
A source familiar with the incident disclosed that the matter was reported to the Azikiwe Police Division in the area.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Iringe-Koko said: “We received a report about an officer who allegedly killed himself.
“However, we are currently investigating the report to ascertain what transpired.”
Iringe-Koko added that the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for a thorough investigation.
