Police parade three female varsity students over brutal assault video

The Bayelsa State Police Command has paraded three female students of the Federal University, Otuoke, accused of assaulting Nancy Wilfred in a viral video that triggered widespread outrage.

The suspects — identified as Kadi Daniel, Miracle, and Becky — were presented at the command headquarters in Yenagoa on Thursday, while a fourth suspect, Favour, remains at large.

In the footage, Nancy was beaten, stepped on, stripped naked, and humiliated. Daniel, 20, admitted that she and her friends attacked the victim under the influence of alcohol, while Miracle confessed that peer pressure and anger influenced her actions.

According to their accounts, the group lured Nancy to their apartment under the pretext of retrieving missing clothes, then launched the assault over allegations that she had spread false claims of using charms to attract men.

One of the suspects recorded the attack and deliberately shared it online.

Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, condemned the incident, describing it as a case of conspiracy to murder, abduction, and cyberbullying.

He confirmed that investigations were ongoing and vowed that justice would be served.

“This will not be taken lightly.

“Three suspects are in custody, and we are on the trail of the fourth.

“At the end of the investigation, the judiciary will take over,” Idu said, commending Governor Douye Diri, his wife, gender rights groups, the NBA, and FIDA for supporting efforts to curb crime in the state.

The case has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of laws such as the Cybercrimes Act and the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, as well as stronger measures against gender-based violence and online humiliation.
