Police pay N26.4m insurance benefits to families of 52 fallen officers in Imo

The Imo State Police Command has presented cheques worth N26.43 million to families of 52 officers who died while serving in the line of duty.

The cheques, totalling N26,428,898, were presented on Friday by the state Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

The presentation took place at the commissioner’s office in Owerri under the Group Life Assurance/Group Personnel Accident Scheme.

The scheme provides financial assistance to families of police personnel who lose their lives in active service.

In a statement, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, said Bosso commiserated with the beneficiaries and acknowledged the sacrifices of the deceased officers.

“While presenting the cheques, the Commissioner of Police commiserated with the beneficiaries and acknowledged the sacrifices of the deceased officers. He assured them of the continued commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of its personnel and their families,” the statement read.

Among those who received the insurance benefits were Felista Okorie, Gift Chidera Omini, Stella Chidinma Nwosu, Nkeiruka Okparada, Florence Offoegbu and Edith Ogochukwu Onyekwere.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Nwosu thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Imo Commissioner of Police for the financial support.

She said the assistance would provide meaningful relief to the affected families.

The command said the payment formed part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to support the families of officers who died while serving the country.

It also commended the Force for sustaining welfare initiatives for families of fallen personnel and reaffirmed its commitment to honouring officers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
