Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have recovered suspected stolen cash, firearms and a vehicle following a dramatic shoot-out with fleeing criminals in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area.
According to a statement by SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police public relations officer for the state command, the recovery was made on Tuesday at about 5:00 pm during an offensive security operation conducted by the Commissioner of Police Special Patrol Team.
Items recovered at the scene included a pump-action rifle, a locally fabricated single-barrel rifle, an ash-coloured Toyota Highlander (registration UWN 680 PE) and suspected stolen cash totaling ₦636,700, along with other incriminating materials.
The suspects reportedly abandoned their vehicle after it was involved in an accident while attempting to evade police.
Although they managed to escape, the command said efforts have been stepped up to track and arrest them.
SP Ikenga reiterated the command’s commitment to proactive policing and to safeguarding lives and property across the state as intensified, intelligence-led operations continue to hunt down the fleeing suspects.
He also referenced a separate recent arrest by the Rapid Response Squad in Ogbaru LGA on December 10, where a 26-year-old armed robbery suspect was apprehended and a locally made Beretta pistol and 11 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
