The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that the body of a Canadian national, Mr. Dwight Sullivan, who was found dead in a hotel on Victoria Island, has been released to his family for cremation.
Sullivan was discovered lifeless in his hotel room on Tuesday, prompting a swift response from officers of the Victoria Island Police Division following a distress call.
Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said operatives arrived promptly at the scene and conducted an initial assessment of the situation. “Upon arrival, our officers observed that there were no visible marks of violence on the deceased, indicating that foul play was not immediately suspected,” Adebisi explained.
She noted that the body was moved to a morgue for preservation while investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death began. The police also contacted the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria, which facilitated communication with the deceased’s relatives.
“The relative has since taken custody of the body for cremation,” Adebisi confirmed.
The police spokesperson added that investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of death.
