Police sack three officers over UNIPORT graduate’s killing

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed three officers found culpable in the killing of a University of Port Harcourt graduate, Anthony Obodo, in Port Harcourt.

Obodo was shot dead around Ada George in the state capital last Thursday, with the incident prompting an investigation into the police personnel involved.

The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, announced the disciplinary action on Wednesday while parading the affected officers before journalists in Port Harcourt.

According to Adepoju, the command reached its decision after completing its investigation and establishing the officers’ involvement in the killing.

He said the three dismissed personnel would also face criminal prosecution.

“The Command has taken appropriate disciplinary action against the police personnel involved, and the officers being paraded today have been dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force and will be charged to court,” Adepoju said.

The commissioner also disclosed that another member of the team, an inspector who allegedly fled the scene after Obodo was shot, had been declared a deserter.

The command’s action means the officers will no longer remain in the Nigeria Police Force and will be subjected to further legal proceedings over their alleged roles in the incident.
