Police suspend enforcement of tinted glass permit policy pending court hearing

The Nigeria Police Force has temporarily suspended the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy following a court-issued interim order.

The policy, initially scheduled for nationwide enforcement from 2nd January 2026, was announced by the Police on 15th December 2025 as part of efforts to enhance public safety and internal security.

However, the Force was served with an interim order on 17th December 2025 in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, restraining it from implementing the policy until the substantive case is heard or the order is lifted.

In compliance with judicial authority, the Nigeria Police Force has entered appearance in court, raised preliminary objections, and applied for the vacation of the interim order.

The matter has been adjourned to 20th January 2026 for further proceedings.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, emphasized that the Force remains committed to upholding the rule of law while continuing to protect lives and property.

He assured the public that lawful, intelligence-driven strategies will continue to be deployed to address security challenges nationwide.

Members of the public are advised to await further communication from the Police regarding the tinted glass policy following the court’s decision.
