Police to enforce durbar ban during Eid-el-Kabir in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has reaffirmed its decision to enforce the ban on durbar festivities during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration, citing ongoing security concerns.

The durbar, a traditional festival typically held during Eid-el-Kabir and Eid-el-Fitr, features prayers followed by a colorful parade led by the Emir and his entourage on horseback.

However, authorities say this year’s event will not be held due to potential threats to public peace.

In a statement released on Tuesday and jointly signed by various security agencies in the state, the police revealed that intelligence reports had uncovered plots by miscreants and their sponsors to disrupt the festivities.

The statement emphasized that the ban—originally imposed on March 28 ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration—remains in effect.

It added that the security agencies have put comprehensive measures in place to ensure a peaceful and incident-free Eid celebration across the state.

Police shut down illegal motor parks, unlicensed taxi operations in Gombe

“The Command, in collaboration with all security agencies in the state, acting on credible intelligence, pronounced a total ban on all forms of durbar activities throughout the state, as part of collective efforts to maintain peace and security,” the statement said.

It further stressed that the threat levels identified earlier still persist, and the ban will therefore be strictly enforced during the 2025 Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The police also cautioned against activities such as horse riding, car racing, reckless driving, illegal display of firearms, and possession of suspicious items, all of which are prohibited during the festive period.

While extending felicitations to Muslims and residents of Kano, the command called for prayers for continued peace and prosperity in both the state and the country.

Parents and guardians were also advised to warn their children and wards against engaging in unlawful acts.
