The Kano State Police Command has cautioned underage individuals against operating tricycles, locally known as “Keke Napep” or “Adaidaita Sahu,” within the Kano metropolis.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Command’s spokesman, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the warning followed reports of 16 serious road accidents recorded in August 2025, all linked to underage tricycle drivers.

The accidents, he noted, resulted in multiple injuries and property damage.

Kiyawa warned that, going forward, any underage driver found operating a tricycle would be arrested and prosecuted.

He also urged parents and guardians to stop allowing minors to operate tricycles, stressing that such actions could attract severe legal penalties for both the rider and the tricycle owner.

According to him, the command has set up a special enforcement team to ensure compliance with traffic laws.

He encouraged residents to report cases of underage riding, reckless driving, or other traffic violations to the nearest police station or through the emergency numbers 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
