A son of a police officer, identified simply as Bayo, has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl in the Durbar area of Oyo town, Oyo State.
Bayo, 19, was said to have allegedly raped the girl while the victim was sent on an errand by her mother on Monday, October 5, 2026.
The victim’s father, Afeez Tiamiyu, alleged that Bayo sexually assaulted his daughter while she was on her way to purchase a recharge card.
Tiamiyu told PUNCH: “I was at work when my wife called to tell me that my daughter had been raped by one Bayo, who lives in our area.
“I quickly rushed home to know what was happening, and on getting home, we found traces of semen and bruises on the girl’s body. We asked her if she could identify who did that to her, and she said yes.
“We took her to the scene, and on our way, she identified the boy, after which he was arrested and taken to the Police Area Command, Durbar, Oyo.”
Tiamiyu disclosed that the matter took a different turn at the police station after discovering that the suspect’s father was a serving police officer in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.

Tiamiyu, who alleged that some officers on duty attempted to persuade the family to drop the case, said: “Some of the police officers on duty that day were trying to persuade us not to pursue the case, but we insisted because no one is above the law.
“Immediately we noticed what they were planning, we involved human rights groups, and they promised to take up the matter.”
It was further gathered that a medical examination conducted on the victim at the State Hospital, Oyo, revealed that the five-year-old girl sustained injuries over the sexual assault.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation.
